Julia studied Applied Mathematics in her homeland France before doing her PhD in Bayesian statistics in Cambridge UK, in collaboration with Microsoft. She has always been interested in the multitude of applications Machine Learning offers and – after using computer vision tasks for her PhD – she did a post-doc in Bioinformatics at the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Germany.

She then moved to the industry at Zalando, where she first did image tagging in Team GutenTag, then representation learning at Zalando Research, and finally recommender systems in the Size & Fit organization. She has been at Size & Fit for 2.5 years and is overviewing the technical aspects of the current size recommender, from the first scientific experimentations to the final roll-outs.
